Abruzzo
Traditional Cuisine Workshops
Experience firsthand the special taste of Abruzzo! From 2010
Casa Selva collaborates with the Michelin-listed and Slow
Food Restaurant Borgo Spoltino, and it's well known chef Gabriele
Marrangoni, who has designed - for Casa Selva only - several
cooking classes to show you the secrets of the local regional
cuisine.
Every class will be taught by qualified personnel such as
chefs, sommeliers and experts in olive oil and cheese tastings,
accompanied by an english interpreter. The cooking will take
place in Terra del Gusto Restaurant's professional
kitchens, especially reserved for the workshops. All ingredients
used are organic, when possible from our own garden, and always
the best quality. At the end of each session, some of the
dishes made will be tasted. Many side activities will be part
of the workshop, like learning to pick out wild vegetables
in spring time, or other vegetables from our organic crops.

Traditional Cuisine Workshops!

Adriatic
seashore
If you need
a day of relaxation, sun, beach, and water, a trip to
the Adriatic seashore is perfect. Just 8 kilometers
from Casa Selva you can swim at Giulianova lido: inviting
clean sea and wide sandy beach for as long as the eye
can see. And of course, plenty of ice cream shops and
fish restaurants!

Civitella
del Tronto and Le gole del Salinello
The remnants
of the Civitella's fortress ("la Fortezza"),
are not far from Casa Selva. The large fortress towers
over the little mountain village Civitella del Tronto;
the place is rich with intriguing history about the
past battles between the Spanish, the French and the
Austrian who all have conquered the fortress. The original
fortress dates back to around year 1000 and is considered
one of Europe´s most interesting examples of military
architecture.

Rocca Calascio
and Santo Stefano di Sessanio
Probably the
most amazing daytrip in Abruzzo is a trip to Rocca Calascio.
It is a 90 minutes drive from Casa selva, but it is
absolutely worth the travel time. Calascio is an old
castle ruin located on the Campo Imperatore Plateau
(1250m) surrounded by lower beautiful valleys in the
national park of Abruzzo. Magic atmosphere!

Ascoli
Piceno
Ascoli
Piceno is the Marche-region's most southern city and
it is about 40 minutes from Casa Selva by car. The city
is one of Italy's well known "città d'arte",
which means that the cultural and historical attractions
are especially interesting. The city is fairly large
with 60,000 inhabitants, but in a day of walking you
can easily see most of the beautiful historical city
center. Absolutely recommended.

Trips in
the nature preserves: Lago di Campotosto, hiking on
the Gran Sasso
40 % of Abruzzo's
area is protected as nature preserves, which means that
the opportunities to experience nature are almost unlimited.
The nature preserves have expansive hiking paths and
you can ride, bike, canoe and much, much more. The wildlife
is unique, and if lucky, you can see wolves, eagles,
brown bears. From Casa selva it is only a short drive
to reach one of the major nature reserves.

Castelli
Castelli is
a charming medieval town that clings on to the gorgeous
mountainside Monte Camicia in the southeastern part
of the National Park del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga.
The town is known for its handmade ceramics - a tradition
that goes back to around year 1000 - and can be admired
in the many small shops and workshops in the town.

Shopping
If you would
like to bring home some typical Italian products such
as good parmigiano cheese or a beautiful espresso pot,
you can find those in nearby towns such as Giulianova
or Teramo. However, if you wish to shop hardcore for
Italian clothes, shoes, and handbags, then Pescara or
San Benedetto del Tronto are the best options.
